Getting ready to climb back down

About a week and a half ago, I handed in a couple of papers to my thesis advisors to review. And while I was waiting for their feedback, there were about a million things I could have done (reading, start writing an essay due in June, drafting up chapters for my thesis...). Instead, I procrastinated, procrastinated and then procrastinated some more.... In my defense, I think I was a little burnt out from all the work I put into those two papers. In the week in a half since I handed in those papers, I did a minimum of thesis work and way too much friday-night-lights-watching and playing in general. Just yesterday, Gus had a sleepover at a friend's and Vic and I enjoyed dinner and a movie (complete with a choc top), and this morning - out for bacon and egg rolls and flat whites at a coffee shop down the street. mnum, mnum. But, it's all coming to an end. I got their feedback on Friday and I need to hunker down and finish up these papers (one is due on May 31st). So, scuse me, while I climb back down into the hole that is my phd. I'll be back soon.

p.s. - went to see Girl with the Dragon Tattoo last night and it was a ripper! (as they say). Lisbeth was fantastic and the winter scenes reminded me of why I shouldn't complain that it's only going up to 18C tomorrow. If you haven't yet, do go see it.

I just bought that book in English. It's super thick; I'm saving it for my trip to you-know-where!

I'm working on a PhD in Seattle - yeah, sometimes we just need a breather. Feels like a waste of time, but there's nothing left to study with (no brain cells engaged.) Go for it as you can. How far are you in? I'm finishing my dissertation/thesis proposal by summer's end, I hope. Then the dissertation itself.

Hi Mimi! Are you in Sydney yet? If yes, I hope you are enjoying it! Sydney winters aren't the best with its unheated buildings and short days, but without question - much better than an Ottawa winter!

Hi J Bar: Ditto!

Peacefultones blogger: Yep - breathers are definitely needed now and then. I had a fellow student (who completed her PhD recently) who used to reassure me that your brain is always working behind the scenes, even when you're not actively working on your dissertation. So that's how I reassure myself whenever I'm taking a breather!

Since I'm a Christian, the breaks make even more sense. Who else has a god like the Christian God who asks his children to take a break each week, to relax and reflect on life and love and wisdom? That's gotta be good for us :-)

Enjoy life and studies. Aren't we lucky to be able to do this? R in Seattle
